Les Ballets C de la B nous ont habitués à des spectacles détonants, exposant vigoureusement la violence ordinaire et bouleversant, en même temps que le confort du spectateur, ses attentes et ses certitudes. Mais Gardenia, créé l’an dernier, n’est pas seulement un nouvel opus dans cette lignée. Né de la rencontre du chorégraphe Alain Platel et du metteur en scène Frank Van Laecke avec Vanessa Van Durme, comédienne transsexuelle, ce spectacle est avant tout un témoignage, particulièrement intense : celui de neuf personnes transsexuelles ou travestis, âgés d’une soixantaine d’années, qui investissent le plateau et livrent une part de leur parcours. Des clichés à la perturbation des genres assignés, du plaisir de la scène à la déchirure des bouleversements identitaires, Gardenia renvoie chacun de nous à ses zones d’ombre et de métamorphose.
