Gyrations of Barbarous Tribes, précédemment, l’avait fait : réunir des interprètes de différentes origines (dont plusieurs danseurs venus du Mozambique), et les accompagner sur scène de musiciens live. Du choc de l’altérité naissait alors la possibilité d’un « être ensemble », d’une rencontre, voire d’une fusion. Geografía reprend les mêmes principes : ils viennent de Suède, de Corée, du Mozambique, de Slovaquie, et se confrontent, le temps du plateau, aux évolutions soft-rock du groupe Kafka dont les nappes musicales enveloppent les variations du corps. Pourtant, le chorégraphe laisse de côté sa vision quasi utopique sur laquelle il terminait Gyrations. La nouvelle création s’ouvre sur une solitude, celle d’une danseuse à la guitare, seule en avant-scène face au silence du public. Bientôt elle est rejointe par les autres danseurs, et chacun va distiller un morceau de lui-même dans des solos très libres et très isolés. Nul ne saurait chercher quelque chose d’une identité liée à leur culture dans leurs propositions de corps ; ils dansent comme ils sont, reflets d’une singularité individuelle plutôt que d’une appartenance à une quelconque communauté.
Les modulations de corps au service d’une rencontre possible
Est-ce justement pour tenter de définir les contours d’une nouvelle communauté mondiale universelle, conçue autour d’états de corps en mouvement ? Toute la première partie de la pièce tourne autour de ces individus, de ces forces mises en présence, qui jouent l’improbabilité d’une rencontre ou la fugacité d’un accident de parcours. Car les présences se confrontent, se télescopent, jamais ne se touchent, et l’œil du spectateur guette chaque instant où l’alchimie peut prendre. Rien n’est jamais acquis, et c’est sans doute le danseur Idio Simiao Francisco Chichava qui accompagne le mieux la progression et la transformation de ces solitudes en communauté en mouvement. Troublant de ses frappes le rythme de la batterie, il devient l’artisan d’un nouveau lien entre les danseurs et la musique, et entre les corps des interprètes. La contagion opère, les trajectoires se croisent et les histoires se tissent, dans l’écart comme dans la rencontre.
