L’action de ProQuartet se partage entre activité pédagogique et diffusion de concert. Comment équilibrez-vous ces deux aspects ?
Georges Zeisel : L’un nourrit l’autre. Nous recevons dans nos académies et nos sessions de formation de jeunes ensembles du monde entier (60 % de nos formations sont étrangères), qui travaillent ainsi avec les plus grands professeurs. En parallèle, nous organisons des concerts avec ces formations mais aussi avec des ensembles plus connus. Nous développons également nos projets à l’international. Nous participons ainsi à un festival en Hongrie et avons des échanges réguliers, notamment avec le Conservatoire de la Nouvelle Angleterre, le « Harvard » de la musique de chambre.
Les 11èmes rencontres musicales de ProQuartet se déroulent du 13 mai au 19 juin à Fontainebleau et en Seine-et-Marne. Quels sont les temps forts de cette édition ?
« Mettre l’accent sur le lien entre la voix et le quatuor à cordes »
G.Z. : Il y a toujours deux volets. D’une part, les jeunes talents se produisent dans les petites églises de Seine-et-Marne. Et d’autre part, les concerts au théâtre de Fontainebleau donnent à entendre des artistes plus confirmés. Pour cette édition, nous allons mettre l’accent sur le lien entre la voix et le quatuor à cordes. Nous avons notamment déterré un inédit de Webern et nous programmons une version peu connue de la Suite lyrique de Berg avec chanteuse. Les compositeurs de l’Ecole de Vienne avaient réussi à obtenir une vraie homogénéité des timbres, montrant à la fois la vocalité des cordes et l’instrumentalité de la voix. Nous aurons aussi un week-end de concert consacré à Olivier Greif, qui nous a quitté il y a dix ans. Ce compositeur a beaucoup utilisé la voix et le quatuor à cordes dans des pièces très expressives.
Outres les cordes, les instruments à vent sont aussi à l’affiche…
G.Z. : Depuis deux ans, nous avons mis en place une académie sous la houlette du hautboïste Maurice Bourgue. Cette année, nous avons trois ensembles : un duo flûte et euphonium, un quatuor de saxophones et un quintette à vents. Nous faisons ainsi entendre des œuvres peu connues, la découverte du répertoire étant un autre axe fort de ProQuartet.
A côté du Festival en Seine-et-Marne, ProQuartet poursuit sa saison de concerts parisiens aux Invalides…
G.Z. : Oui, il y aura d’ailleurs deux événements au mois de mai dans le grand Salon des Invalides. Le 7 mai, on pourra entendre le remarquable quatuor américain Vinca, en résidence à ProQuartet. Et le 21 mai, le pianiste israélien Yaron Kohlberg interprétera notamment les 24 préludes de Chopin. Les concerts se poursuivront ensuite à la rentrée, avec notamment une création de Suzanne Giraud pour quintette avec deux altos. ProQuartet tient évidemment à s’engager dans la création contemporaine.
Où en est le projet d’implantation du Centre européen de musique de chambre dans le château de Fontainebleau ?
C’est un projet qui prend tous les jours un peu plus de retard. L’hypothèse, aujourd’hui écartée, d’installer le musée de l’histoire de France voulu par le Président de la République dans le château de Fontainebleau a mis le projet du centre en suspens. Par ailleurs, notre situation budgétaire est dramatique. Nous avons depuis 2007 une baisse de 30 % de notre budget. Nous avons aujourd’hui affaire à des politiques publiques pour qui la culture est synonyme de divertissement.
