SYMPHONIQUE / MAISON DE LA RADIO
Le thème de la « danse macabre » a marqué la fin du Moyen Âge, s’insinuant dans la peinture, la poésie ou la musique. Le gothique 19e siècle le fait resurgir, de La Jeune Fille et la Mort de Schubert à la Danse macabre de Saint-Saëns en passant par la chevauchée diabolique de La Damnation de Faust. Le cycle de Moussorgski est d’une puissance d’évocation extraordinaire. Comme les gravures de Hans Holbein, les quatre mélodies (sur des poèmes de Golenishchev-Kutuzov) font entrer la figure de la Mort dans les scènes de la vie quotidienne. L’orchestration la plus souvent retenue aujourd’hui est celle réalisée par Chostakovitch en 1962, quelques années avant sa propre 14e Symphonie, elle aussi hantée par la Mort. C’est cependant la 10e Symphonie, aux mouvements très contrastés, que Gianandrea Noseda a choisi d’interpréter. En ouverture de concert, il dirige l’Élégie héroïque, « à la mémoire d’un soldat mort à la guerre », écrite par Alfredo Casella en 1916.
