Quel sens faut-il donner au titre de ce nouvel album "Vitamia"?
Gianmaria Testa : J’ai titré ce disque « Vitamia », (« mavie »), en un seul mot parce qu’il ne s’agit ni d’un résumé ni d’un bilan. Ce sont plutôt les notes d’un journal personnel, mais à partager, dans lequel on retrouve un peu de passé, beaucoup de présent et même une petite (et laïque) invocation pour un futur dans lequel le lendemain serait envisageable… J’ai dédié l’album à Erri De Luca (ndlr : écrivain, poète et dramaturge italien, né en 1950, qui a associé Gianmaria Testa à son projet théâtral Chisciotte e gli invincibili – Quichotte et les invincibles – en 2007).

Ce qui frappe d’emblée dans cet album, c’est une liberté musicale que l’on n’avait jamais rencontrée à ce point dans vos disques précédents…
G. T. : La diversité sonore dans ma tête et dans mes intentions était une tentative de reproduire, dans l’espace d’un disque, les différentes couleurs et tensions des émotions. La collaboration amicale et complice des musiciens qui ont l’habitude de travailler avec moi a rendu possible l’exploration de territoires musicaux qui ne me sont pas spécialement familiers. Comme par exemple un certain esprit rock que j’ai utilisé pour mieux raconter le déchirement d’un présent difficile.
La thématique du temps – celui qui passe, qui est à venir, ou derrière soi, celui de l’amour, de l’enfance, de la rupture, etc… – est au cœur de votre inspiration dans les textes de cet album…
G. T. : Je ne suis pas obsédé par le temps. Je considère le temps comme notre véritable richesse, petite, et donc précieuse. Trop petite et précieuse pour la gâcher ou permettre qu’on nous la vole. On a tendance à compter la vie par années mais les années sont des mesures presque métaphysiques qui nous semblent très longues. Si on comptait la vie en jours, alors on se rendrait mieux compte que notre réserve de temps est petite ! L’espace entre l’aube et le coucher du soleil est court et facilement mesurable. Le temps ne peut être ni ami ni ennemi : il est tout simplement la route sur laquelle passe notre voyage.
Une autre inspiration forte de ce disque est la question sociale. Comment ressentez-vous notre époque sur le plan politique et social ?
G. T. : On nous explique tous les jours que la crise économique est très grave. C’est sans doute vrai. Ceci dit, plus que la crise économique en tant que telle, ce qui me pèse est le manque de perspectives futures qui accompagne notre présent. En ce qui concerne l’Italie, je regrette que toutes ces difficultés effacent en ce moment la beauté et l’esprit de mon pays. Et je suis d’accord avec Roberto Benigni quand il dit que l’Italie n’est pas le pays des révolutions. Elle est plutôt capable de résurrections…
