Qu’est-ce qui relie les quatre histoires ?
Giorgio Barberio Corsetti : Chacune met en jeu différemment l’amour impossible,
l’irrésoluble tension entre le désir, irrépressible, incoercible, et les sentiments, sans cesse rattrapés la volonté de pouvoir et de possession de l’autre. Les quatre intrigues ne se
croisent pas mais avancent par spirales vers leur issue fatale. Le tragique tient à la répétition : les êtres sont prisonniers de la même scène, condamnés à l’éternel recommencement de l’échec. Le mouvement est soutenu par l’écriture, très musicale, de Dimitris Dimitriadis, qui procède par boucles, accumulations, variations, digressions… Ça tourne en rond, comme une vrille au fond d’un puits.

N’est-ce pas une façon de cerner l’indicible sans jamais pouvoir l’effleurer ?
G. B. C. : A mesure que la pièce avance, les phrases se décharnent, le geste devient de plus en violent et le lien entre les mots et les situations se perd. Il n’est question que de ce qui ne peut être dit… Le centre des choses n’est pas dicible. La parole tourne autour d’un vide, d’un manque, de plus en en plus vite. Cette mise en crise de la parole théâtrale suit le délitement du réel, l’impossibilité de raconter que met en abîme Dimitris
Dimitriadis. Au fond, la représentation théâtrale tente toujours de révéler l’indicible…
Comment mettre en scène cette mécanique ?
G. B. C. : Les situations et la langue s’ancrent dans un quotidien très concret au début et glissent progressivement vers l’abstraction, jusqu’aux lisières d’un cauchemar, à la fois familier, sinistre et grotesque. Le désir, cette pulsion vers l’autre, s’écrase et reste comme une trace. En peinture, l’abstraction s’exprime par la couleur, les signes, les lignes. Au théâtre, elle passe par les traces des passions, de ce qu’on ne peut voir mais qu’on entend à travers les mots et les corps, ce qu’on perçoit à travers les émotions profondes. Le mouvement du texte se traduit dans la métamorphose de l’espace qui garde quelques stigmates du réel, tels que des meubles, mais qui devient de plus en plus impraticable pour les acteurs. A mesure que le rythme s’accélère, que le cycle se répète, des situations se renversent, les contours des espaces et des êtres se brouillent, comme dans une toile de Francis Bacon.

G. B. C. : Nous travaillons d’abord chaque situation très concrètement, pour nous approprier l’écriture, aller au bout des mots et trouver les corps, pour dessiner ces personnages, qui paraissent d’abord ordinaires, et qui, par épuisement, vont se désagréger. Le jeu évolue d’une ligne claire vers la choralité : les êtres sont emprisonnés dans leur histoire personnelle et leur solitude mais jouent dans un ensemble.
