C’est au tournant des années 2000 que Giovanni Mirabassi s’est révélé avec Avanti !, un disque où il parcourait des hymnes à la liberté, du style Imagine, et des chants partisans, du genre Le Temps des cerises. Depuis, l’Italien biberonné de Monk et de Chopin, sevré d’Enrico Pieranunzi et de Keith Jarrett, a fait carrière comme on dit. Vingt-trois ans et une palanquée de projets plus tard, le revoilà à la tête d’un quartet – le tellurique saxophoniste Guillaume Perret, le jeune contrebassiste Clément Daldosso et le terrible Lukmil Perez à la batterie – afin de présenter son nouvel album, The Swan and The Storm. Un disque qui comme son titre le suggère alterne emportements et recueillement, pour évoquer les bouleversements de l’ère anthropocène.
