Deux chaises de camping plantées dans un pré de petits pains à hamburger, des nappes à carreaux, quelques pliants, des légumes et autres fraiches denrées, une guitare électrique. Et puis cinq âmes… Ces quelconques estivants pique-niquent tranquillement, discourent sur la vie, c’est-à-dire la mort, croquent à gros traits blagueurs la passion du Christ, picorent de-ci de-là de tranchants aphorismes, lardent le tout de slogans publicitaires à peine détournés, d’occupations incongrues et de sombres observations sur l’humanité saccagée par l’humain. L’argent-roi, l’individualisme increvable, la satisfaction immédiate, la consommation avide, la vulgarité et la bêtise ordinaire, la crédulité, le désarroi face à la piteuse réalité de l’existence… voilà le menu de ce copieux Golgota Picnic. Idéaliste athée désabusé, marqué par la philosophie de Schopenhauer, hanté par la mélancolie mais sauvé par l’humour, Rodrigo Garcia dit ses douleurs, ses révoltes, ses incantations atrabilaires face à nos tartuferies et contradictions, ses souvenirs de terreurs enfantines face à l’iconographie religieuse des corps souffrants. Autant de fragments de journaux intimes, carnets noircis à longueur de ses pérégrinations planétaires, qu’il confie directement, sans médiation d’une fiction, sans cynisme, sans le filtre des bienséances hypocrites non plus.
La chute de l’ange
Comme pour les apprivoiser, il joue avec ses frayeurs et réminiscences qu’il tourne en blagues potaches et railleries débauchées. « La dénonciation est aussi un mensonge » s’empresse-t-il d’ajouter. Usant volontiers d’antiphrases et d’images paradoxales, il impose moins une vision didactique qu’il déroute, sème le doute, provoque le regard et la réflexion. Sans doute est-ce par cette ambiguïté que son art est le plus politique… Les acteurs (remarquables dans leur engagement et leur justesse) mettent en actes, très littéralement, la signification implicite des comportements les plus « anodins », des rituels orchestrés par la collectivité. Ils révèlent ainsi la logique qui les sous-tend, la violence symbolique des rapports sociaux et de la société de consommation, habilement cachée sous l’emballage des habitudes. Affinant son langage esthétique, Rodrigo Garcia fait résonner, par le réalisme cru de la matière et des gestes, une force d’évocation métaphorique qui touche l’existentiel. A rebours de l’illustration, il met en tension les paroles, les gestes, les scènes, filmées en direct et projetées en gros plan. Tout entre en échos et dévoile la méditation pessimiste, insolente et drôle, sur l’humaine condition d’ange déchu. « La solitude est l’unique certitude que vous ayez en vous »… La sentence longtemps résonne avec Les sept dernières paroles du Christ sur la croix de Haydn (1786) interprété par Marino Formenti, nu, comme une invitation salutaire au recueillement.
