Julie Dossavi a mis sa plastique athlétique au service de projets très différents tout au long de sa carrière de danseuse. Elle danse aussi bien avec Jean-François Duroure, Kettly Noël, ou Salia nï Seydou, que pour des artistes du show business comme Yannick Noah ou Angelique Kidjo. Si son nom s’est associé pendant plusieurs années à celui de Gérard Gourdot, elle mène aujourd’hui ses propres projets en tant que chorégraphe, dans une démarche ancrée dans une recherche identitaire, voguant entre la danse et la musique, entre la France et l’Afrique, entre le solo et la pièce de groupe.
Faire fi des frontières
Grand-père n’aime pas le swing est un solo « accompagné » par le musicien Yvan Talbot dans lequel la danseuse se met en jeu à travers une matière très personnelle. Elle signe comme un manifeste, s’y affirme femme, artiste, noire, moderne. Elle y joue aussi toutes ses singularités, ses ambivalences, convoque par photographies interposées sa famille, mais aussi les grandes dames qui l’ont marquée en tant que femme et artiste : Billie Holiday, Angela Davis, Myriam Makeba, Nina Simone… Que ce soit dans la danse, la musique, ou les références explicitement formulées pour étayer son propos, Julie Dossavi, n’en déplaise à son grand-père, swingue entre l’Europe et l’Afrique en faisant fi des frontières, réelles ou symboliques.
