En 1938, Brecht met en garde ses contemporains sur la fécondité du ventre de la bête. « Ce texte parle de nous, de l’intime et du politique, ce qu’il raconte reste universel et d’actualité même si une époque y est disséquée » dit la metteur en scène Cécile Aziliz, qui considère que donner cette pièce « à voir et à entendre, c’est faire résonner encore et inlassablement les bonnes questions », afin de « ne jamais oublier que nous sommes capables du pire et du meilleur ». Dans la scénographie simple et légère d’un espace vide, accompagnés au piano par Francesco Tristano, les comédiens interprètent le texte en alternant trois dimensions de jeu : le regard du clown au nez rouge, celui du bouffon au nez noir et le jeu sans nez : « Ces clowns à la vitalité facétieuse équilibrent la noirceur du propos, tandis que les comédiens sans nez, sans masque nous replongent, lorsqu’ils reprennent le pouvoir du jeu, dans la réalité brute de ce qui se joue : une humanité en combat avec elle-même ».
