A ma gauche, l’octet de Sylvia Versini, compositrice qui, après avoir étudié auprès des recommandés Yvan Jullien et Bernard Maury, a créé son propre ensemble. Mieux, elle s’est convertie au soundpainting, une théorie développée au cours des années 80 par Walter Thompson, qui compte de nombreux émules en France. Il s’agit d’une technique de composition en temps réel basée sur un échange interactif entre celui qui dirige et ceux qui jouent. Ce qui crée forcément une bande-son évolutive, avec son lot de bonnes surprises, dans ce jeu de rôles où chacun est partie prenante de l’écriture à l’œuvre, à l’improviste. Dans le cas de la « mingusienne » Sylvia Versini, cela devrait donner lieu à une musique des plus dynamiques.
A ma droite, le Paris Jazz Big Band, une machine à swing fondée en 1999 par Pierre Bertrand et Nicolas Folmer et rodée à toutes les scènes, dont le modèle revendiqué est l’orchestre de Thad Jones & Mel Lewis. Avec de sérieux cadors dans ses rangs, dont le saxophoniste Sylvain Beuf, le tromboniste Denis Leloup ou encore André Ceccarelli à la batterie, on peut compter sur le PJBB, qui présentera anciennes et nouvelles compositions dans un programme qui fête le dixième anniversaire de ce big band.
