Grido. Le Cri. Un cri qui déchire les chairs à vif du passé, fend en silence l’affolant vacarme qui grouille sous la peau rugueuse des jours. Et frappe à la poitrine comme le bruit sourd d’un corps dégringolé tout au fond, au plus sombre de l’espoir. Frappe pour remonter, revivre. « Ce film est né d’une expérience qui a transpercé ma vie. Deux années à extraire l’essence d’une histoire beaucoup plus longue… », écrit Pippo Delbono en exergue. L’histoire naît sur la côte ligure en Italie. Elle est celle d’un garçon qui a grandi dans les brides serrées de la morale catholique, qui cherche sa liberté, découvre l’amour interdit, et l’alcool, le sexe, la drogue. Finalement le théâtre. Grido est l’histoire d’après la mort de cet amour, l’épreuve de la chute, de la maladie, de la folie. Jusqu’à cette rencontre, lors d’un stage en 1996, avec Bobo, 63 ans, microcéphale sourd et muet interné depuis 45 ans dans un asile psychiatrique. Début d’une fuite à deux et d’une lente renaissance, à travers le regard naïf de ce vieux petit homme qui découvre le monde, simplement.
Sauver pour être sauvé…
Bonimenteur pudique, esquinté par les cahots du parcours, le corps épais mais délié par une grâce de danseur… Et puis cette poésie crue qui brûle au ventre. Pippo Delbono se donne ainsi, à l’écran comme à la scène. Entouré de ses compagnons de fortune, éclopés qu’il a croisés au gré de ses errances, de ces voyages, l’artiste italien puise la matière de son art parmi les tessons de vie, captant les éclats magnifiques et les profondes blessures, la cruelle beauté du réel, bouleversée. Grido flotte aux lisières étranges de la réalité, entre rêve et cauchemar, frotte des fragments taillés à même sa biographie : scènes de théâtre, visions fantasmatiques, souvenirs, traversées de Naples, extraits de spectacles, notamment Les Récits de juin. La caméra se fait complice, scrutatrice discrète, parfois maladroite, sort du cadre, s’attarde sur le bruissement d’un visage, le murmure d’un lieu, capte le mouvement plus que le sujet, tandis que Pippo Delbono trame en voix off le fil du récit. Le cadrage sans apprêt, la liberté poétique de l’image laissent bruire la rage, les batailles muettes, la peur, l’étrange vide au-delà de la perte, et cette douceur triste du deuil et ce lent chemin vers l’autre, pour revenir à soi, à la vie.
