Centre Pompidou et Théâtre de Gennevilliers / textes et mes Toshiki Okada
« Après cette catastrophe, j’ai changé ma manière de voir le théâtre et son rôle dans la société. », dit Toshiki Okada à propos du séisme du 11 mars 2011 et de l’accident nucléaire de Fukushima qui a suivi. Current Location et Ground and Floor, deux spectacles nés après le désastre, sont l’occasion, pour l’artiste japonais, d’interroger « le thème du changement et la recherche d’un rapport plus adéquat entre les individus et le monde ». Dans Ground and Floor, on suit une femme en butte aux contraintes sociales, parlant une langue japonaise ordinaire, mais comme en voie d’extinction. Current Location se déroule dans un univers de science-fiction, où sept femmes évoluent dans un village que l’on dit « damné », métaphore de la situation japonaise actuelle, et adoptent chacune une attitude différente face à cette menace portée par la rumeur. Par la fiction, Toshiki Okada offre au monde le moyen d’une réflexion sur lui-même, car « la fiction est le meilleur moyen de créer une tension avec la société.»
