« Gudirr Gudirr est une alerte, celle de l’oiseau guwayi qui appelle lorsque la marée tourne : manquer l’appel, c’est se noyer » explique Dalisa Pigram, la fondatrice de cette compagnie contemporaine australienne et interprète de ce solo intense, qui mêle danse et vidéo. Inscrite dans le contexte particulier de l’histoire du Pacifique, cette pièce porte une réflexion forte sur l’héritage culturel colonial, et trace un chemin « entre un passé brisé et un présent fragile », avec pour ligne d’horizon l’avenir à construire. Marrugeku est en elle-même un symbole de ce vaste territoire du Pacifique Sud et rassemble une équipe pluriethnique de danseurs aborigènes et non-aborigènes vivant en Australie et en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Pour cette pièce, Dalisa Pigram et Rachael Swain qui co-dirigent la compagnie ont fait appel au chorégraphe Koen Augustijnen. Ensemble, ils questionnent la disparition du mode de vie des aborigènes de l’Ouest australien et se demandent « comment déverrouiller les portes, et faire face au changement culturel ». Gudirr Gudirr se veut un appel ultime à remettre les choses en ordre autant que le signal d’un nouveau monde.
