En contrepoint de l’exposition autour des deux cycles de peintures et de dessins Le Poème de l’âme de Louis Janmot, le Musée d’Orsay invite Guillaume Coppola dans une mise en avant du versant musical de l’inspiration mystique. À l’âge romantique, Liszt l’illustre avec les Harmonies poétiques et religieuses ou les Consolations pour piano. Influencé par la théosophie et la synesthésie, Scriabine s’inscrit de manière singulière dans cette quête d’extase spirituelle par les notes, ainsi qu’en témoigne l’une de ses ultimes pages, Vers la flamme, quintessence de son art pianistique. Quant à Mompou, le recueillement ascétique des miniatures de son cycle Musica callada en fait un des chefs-d’œuvre des confins du silence. À la Maison de la musique de Nanterre, Guillaume Coppola reprend avec Hervé Billaut le programme de leur premier enregistrement à quatre-mains, Wiener Rhapsodie, où la rencontre des Valses et Danses hongroises de Brahms avec le Divertissement à la hongroise de Schubert condense le carrefour musical qu’était la capitale de l’Empire austro-hongrois au XIXème siècle.
