Compositeur et pianiste, l’argentin Gustavo Beytelmann, parisien d’adoption depuis 1976, est l’une des personnalités les plus incontestées du tango contemporain. Il éclaire à l’invitation du MAHJ « un autre visage » de la musique argentine en explorant, en formule piano-violon-clarinette, l’avant et l’après du tango tel qu’il s’est imposé et épanoui mondialement au XXè siècle. « Le trio piano, violon, clarinette a un antécédent lointain à la fin du XIXe siècle, quand le genre tango n’avait pas encore constitué définitivement son code. Si le piano et le violon sont deux piliers historiques de cette musique, l’irruption de la clarinette modifie fortement leur relation. Le répertoire est constitué de compositions originales, de pièces traditionnelles de l’histoire du tango, et revisite même deux morceaux de Duke Ellington, comme s’ils étaient nés dans un quartier de Buenos Aires » explique Gustavo Beytelmann, grand musicien étonnamment rare sur les scènes parisiennes.
