Très célébrée de son vivant, l’œuvre de Georg Friedrich Haendel connaît encore un écho retentissant. Le « compositeur de la voix » passionne autant le public que les interprètes. Rinaldo fut le premier opéra qu’il écrivit en arrivant à Londres ainsi que son plus grand succès. Sa partition très brillante, remplie de difficultés vocales, séduit les virtuoses et reste l’une des plus représentées. On peut compter sur l’éminent Ottavio Dantone pour faire scintiller cette grande page du répertoire baroque. Théodora est l’avant-dernier oratorio d’Haendel et le seul s’inspirant de textes sacrés. Cette partition figurait parmi ses préférées. Ce fut pourtant un échec. Aujourd’hui, grâce aux interprètes qui, comme Paul McCreesh, servent la musique baroque, Théodora est considérée à juste titre comme une pièce centrale du répertoire haendelien. Renata Pokupic incarnera Théodora et sera accompagnée des Gabrieli Consorts & Players.
