Cela fait un peu plus de vingt ans que François Chattot et Matthias Langhoff se connaissent et travaillent ensemble. Récemment nommé à la tête du Théâtre Dijon Bourgogne, il lui propose de faire ce “cabaret Shakespeare“ qu’il évoque régulièrement. Le monde est une scène et les sublimes personnages shakespeariens ont effectivement de quoi raconter sur les infinies façons de l’habiter. Finalement, c’est Hamlet qui est au programme. « Matthias dit que Hamlet est la plus mauvaise pièce de Shakespeare » avoue François. Bon, c’est pas grave, même si aujourd’hui on ne chasse plus les rats avec une épée, on a quand même très envie de savoir comment Monsieur Langhoff va empoigner le Prince indécis et ce royaume qu’on dit (et qu’on constate) pourri. C’est François Chattot lui-même qui interprète le Prince, un Prince vieux et fatigué alors que sa mère est restée jeune… « En manteau rouge, le matin traverse la rosée qui sur son passage paraît du sang. Ou Ham. And Ex by William Shakespeare. Un Cabaret. »
Mêler tonalités tragiques et infiniment gaies
De grandes tables font passerelle entre le plateau et le public, où les spectateurs pourront s’installer, un dispositif qui évoque d’emblée le cabaret, d’autant que la musique d’Olivier Dejours avec le Tobetobe Orchestra rythme l’action, en chansons et en musiques qui mêlent tonalités tragiques et infiniment gaies. Le fossoyeur chante en creusant, des poèmes aussi de Shakespeare ou d’autres sont chantés et éclairent la situation. « L’acteur élisabéthain, par le clown, par le bouffon, par le chant, est dans un rapport complet, et direct avec le public » rappelle François Chattot. Le metteur en scène est parti de la traduction en allemand qu’il a réalisée avec Heiner Müller, il y a trente ans, dont Jörn Cambreleng crée une version française. « Lorsque Müller a traduit avec moi Hamlet pour Benno Besson, cela lui a demandé beaucoup plus de travail que d’écrire ses propres pièces » dit-il. Un vaste chantier, et une promesse de beau théâtre.
