Dans Hand Stories, il est question de mains. Des mains du marionnettiste chinois Yeung Faï, mais aussi de celles de son père et de celles de ses frères… Il est question d’infiniment petit et d’infiniment grand. D’images et de couleurs. De sons atypiques. D’anges, de démons, de manipulations politico-poétiques. De transmission. De mémoire et de génération. De vie. De destin. Né en Chine en 1964, Yeung Faï représente la cinquième génération d’une grande famille de marionnettistes. Après le succès international de Scène de l’opéra de Pékin (spectacle avec lequel il voyagea durant pas moins de 25 ans), le marionnettiste nous invite aujourd’hui à une plongée au sein d’un univers familial hors du commun, au cœur d’un réalisme imaginaire.

« Ce spectacle est à la fois l’histoire unique de ma famille, révèle-t-il, et l’histoire plus universelle et atemporelle de la marionnette à gaine chinoise. Cette transmission de la marionnette de père en fils, de maître à élève est très fragile et, dans l’histoire spécifique de ma famille, cette petite lumière a bien souvent failli s’éteindre. » A travers des saynètes sans paroles qui interviennent comme autant de poèmes visuels et sonores, Yeung Faï veille à maintenir allumée cette petite lumière ancestrale. « Ce spectacle est la preuve que cette technique reste toujours en mouvement, ajoute-t-il. C’est ainsi que je l’ai apprise, c’est ainsi que je vis cet art et que je souhaite le transmettre aux générations futures. »
