« Je suis fascinée par les vampires. Par l’idée que les êtres forts et puissants se nourrissent en quelque sorte de la chair des autres », déclarait Marie NDiaye, il y a quelques années, dans nos colonnes (La Terrasse, avril 2008). Le personnage central d’Hilda (première pièce de théâtre de l’écrivaine publiée en 1999, aux Editions de Minuit) est l’un de ces êtres féroces et dominateurs. Cette Madame Lemarchand, qui asservit son employée de maison au nom de ses idéaux de gauche, va faire d’elle un objet. Après Tata ou de l’éducation de Jacques Borel et La Famille Tot d’Istvàn Örkény, Jean Doucet achève ainsi sa trilogie de la manipulation et des jeux de pouvoir avec Hilda. Il fait de cette pièce un conte cruel qui entremêle réel et imaginaire. Une farce noire qui nous confronte « aux modèles que la société nous demande de choisir, ou de subir : celui du dominant, du maître, ou celui du dominé, de l’esclave ».
