La pièce du contemporain Juan Mayorga fait une référence historique à l’inspection par un délégué de la Croix Rouge Internationale du camp de Theresienstadt. Contre toute attente, le mandaté rend un rapport stipulant que les conditions d’internement des Juifs sont satisfaisantes. En fait, la visite, longuement préparée par les Allemands, avait fait l’objet d’une mise en scène pour contrecarrer les rumeurs qui commençaient à circuler sur le sort fatal des Juifs. Il s’agit pour la metteuse en scène Catherine Toussaint, de jouer avec ce théâtre dans le théâtre, une forme volontairement cynique dans laquelle tous les personnages tiennent un rôle dans la contrainte, à l’intérieur d’une vaste supercherie organisée.
Pour que les regards se décillent
Passé et présent, vérité et mensonge, réalité et fiction, le spectateur est convié au miroitement des regards et des points de vue. Grâce au théâtre, il saisit d’autant mieux les situations dont il recompose le puzzle, afin d’éviter la répétition d’un mensonge si gros. Il fait de l’art scénique un outil d’expérimentation redoutable, une machine à radiographier le réel, capable de révéler le visible comme l’invisible, l’horrible comme le sublime. Il faut que l’homme soit suffisamment fort pour voir avec ses propres yeux et nommer avec ses propres mots ce qu’on lui donne à voir : l’indigne. La Strada invite à ce que les regards se décillent enfin.
