L’équipe de la Péniche Opéra œuvre avec passion depuis plus d’un quart de siècle à la redécouverte de répertoires perdus. Le répertoire français lyrique léger méconnu, souvent du xixe siècle, est l’une des spécialités identifiées de la Péniche (voir la récente Colombe de Gounod), la création de petites formes lyriques contemporaines en est une autre (Outsider d’Alexandros Markéas est repris ce mois-ci). Mais, entre les deux, Mireille Larroche et ses complices ne s’interdisent aucun détour et année après année proposent une histoire alternative de l’opéra allemand au xxe siècle.
Opéras courts
Après avoir fort justement exhumé Von heute auf morgen de Schoenberg ou El Cimarrón de Henze, la Péniche Opéra, débarquée pour l’occasion sur la terre ferme de la Cité de la musique, nous offre Hindemith, à travers deux petits opéras situés de part et d’autre de l’activité créatrice du compositeur. Hin und Züruck (Aller-retour) est un opéra miniature de 1927 (Hindemith a trente-deux ans), réduit à sa plus simple expression (soit une intrigue presque banale de crime passionnel). Un peu plus long (environ cinquante minutes), l’opéra en un acte Le Long Dîner de Noël, dernier opéra d’Hindemith créé en 1961, est un projet singulier et ambitieux, adaptation d’une pièce de Thornton Wilder, rencontré lors de son exil américain. La table de Noël, dressée année après année pendant quatre-vingt-dix ans, y est le lieu où se nouent les joies et les drames d’une famille à travers les générations. Récemment retrouvée au disque grâce à Marek Janowski (chez Wergo), cette merveille d’opéra retrouve ici la scène dans un arrangement pour petit orchestre de Lionel Peintre, à la tête de l’Orchestre imaginaire.
