Et si Hippolyte vivait aujourd’hui ? Et si la tragédie n’était pas écrite d’avance ? Partant de la pièce de Sénèque, l’autrice Magali Mougel réécrit l’histoire d’Hippolyte, le fils de Thésée, aimée de Phèdre et accusée de viol par celle-ci, dépitée que son beau-fils ne soit pas sensible à ses charmes. Alors que dans la Phèdre de Sénèque, Hippolyte trouve la mort, mis en pièces par ses propre chevaux, Magali Mougel lui accorde une chance : « nous décidons de lui envisager un autre destin, en le faisant vivre, jusqu’au bout, pour savoir où nous en sommes, là maintenant, de nos malentendus terribles, de nos passions étouffées, de nos pas de côté, mais aussi de nos façons de nous aimer. » En se concentrant sur la figure d’Hippolyte, elle permet de suivre le parcours initiatique d’un adolescent qui dit non. Dans la mise en scène de Catherine Javaloyes, cet adolescent écoute de la musique électro et est entouré de trois petites parques aux allures de marionnettes à taille humaine.
