On a parfois hésité à qualifier Hiroaki Umeda (découvert en France en 2002) de chorégraphe ou de danseur, tant les appellations « artiste visuel » et « performer » semblent bien s’appliquer à sa démarche : ses soli sont pris dans une matière sonore et visuelle, souvent intimement liée aux univers numériques, qui fait de ses pièces de véritables installations. Dans les deux créations qu’il présente à Créteil, le jeune Japonais poursuit cette recherche exigeante. Adapting For Distortion s’inspire de l’art cinétique : les illusions optiques distordent aussi notre conscience du temps et du mouvement corporel. Haptic interroge la matière lumineuse, et plus précisément la couleur : comment – en termes purement physiques – perçoit-on une couleur ? Une façon d’explorer ce qui vient « teinter » la danse, interagir avec elle.
