Le lieu de l’action : un hôpital psychiatrique soviétique de l’ère stalinienne. La date : Moscou 1953, à la veille de la mort de Staline. Les personnages : des malades et un personnel soignant ambigus, bavards, enfermés dans ce véritable labyrinthe sous surveillance, et un écrivain invité à raconter aux malades l’histoire du communisme et de la Grande Révolution Socialiste d’Octobre, car eux aussi ont droit aux lumières de l’art qui pourraient guérir leurs âmes égarées. Le corps physique des malades est ici un champ de bataille que les autorités compétentes s’emploient à réduire à la soumission. La vie dans cet hôpital montre dans un registre grotesque et absurde les dégâts considérables que la mise en œuvre triomphante de l’utopie communiste a entraîné chez “l’homo sovieticus“. Victor Quezada-Perez ose une mise en scène clownesque, en adéquation avec la “grande mascarade historique et la grande bouffonnerie du pouvoir“ que raconte la pièce, selon les mots mêmes de l’auteur.
