Théâtre des Mathurins / D’après la conférence au Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier / mes Gérard Gélas
Le 13 janvier 1947, après dix années d’asile, Antonin Artaud décide de prononcer une conférence au théâtre du Vieux-Colombier. La vie d’Artaud fut une vie maudite, faite de souffrance et d’incompréhension. Brimé par une société qui ne sut pas voir en lui autre chose qu’un maniaque, il dut subir les plus durs traitements psychiatriques, l’incompréhension et l’humiliation. Les électrochocs achevèrent de détruire son esprit et lorsque le Vieux-Colombier ouvrit ses portes à Artaud, celui-ci, incapable d’articuler ni de proférer autre chose que des cris, dut renoncer à lire son texte. Pour que cette œuvre s’entende en ces temps de consensus bêlant, Gérard Gélas met en scène Damien Rémy et les forces noires du poète. Le maquillage aidant, le comédien recompose le visage écartelé, la bouche distordue, les yeux écarquillés d’Artaud. Damien Rémy entre sur scène, il vacille jusqu’à une table où il dépose trois cahiers : tremblements, hésitations, refus, angoisse et enfin, éructé, hurlé, un « voilà longtemps » qui ouvre le flot chaotique de la parole. Que s’ouvrent alors les oreilles de l’oublieux aujourd’hui…
