Personnalité phare de la nouvelle scène du piano français, Alexandre Tharaud compte parmi les artistes classiques les plus ouverts et cultivés, curieux de tout, amateur de théâtre, de danse, de peinture, de cinéma et… de chanson, fan depuis toujours de Barbara. « Plus jeune, j’allais voir tous ses spectacles, explique Alexandre Tharaud. À la fin de sa vie, elle n’avait plus de voix, elle ne pouvait pratiquement plus jouer de piano, son corps avait de grandes faiblesses, et pourtant, une fois sur scène, on ne pouvait plus imaginer son âge ; sa voix était splendide bien que cassée, tout comme son corps. Une grande leçon pour tout artiste ! ». Pour cet hommage, Tharaud invite l’accordéoniste Roland Romanelli, compagnon de route musical de la grande dame pendant 20 ans, mais aussi le clarinettiste Michel Portal (autre musicien familier de Barbara), le violoncelliste François Salque et le chanteur Dominique A.
