Il y a vingt ans, le 6 janvier 1999, disparaissait, emporté à l’âge de 36 ans, l’un des musiciens les plus grands par le talent que le jazz en France ait jamais compté : Michel Petrucciani. Si le pianiste avait un talent, c’est bien celui de faire oublier son handicap (l’ostéogenèse imparfaite, dite « maladie des os de verre »), tant il avait appris à dompter l’immensité du clavier et à faire sonner un piano dans toute son amplitude. C’est ce musicien hors norme, hédoniste et intense, dont l’Académie du jazz a souhaité saluer la mémoire à l’occasion des vingt ans de sa disparition, en transformant la traditionnelle soirée de remise de ses prix en un grand concert hommage. Sur scène, des musiciens qui l’ont connu, en France comme aux Etats-Unis, où il mena une partie de sa riche carrière, tels que le saxophoniste Joe Lovano, les batteurs Lenny White et Aldo Romano, le trompettiste Flavio Boltro, son frère guitariste Philippe Petrucciani et d’autres encore qui lui doivent quelque chose dans leur parcours, comme les pianistes Jacky Terrasson, de trois ans son cadet, Franck Avitabile, à qui Petrucciani prodigua ses encouragements, ou le jeune Laurent Coulondre, chez qui il fit naître une vocation. Un moment de célébration qui promet d’être, au-delà de l’émotion, un beau moment de musique.
