Théâtre 14/ de Eduardo de Filippo/ mes Patrick Pelloquet
Jamais encore mise à l’affiche d’un théâtre parisien, cette comédie vaudevillesque, signée par le napolitain Eduardo de Filippo au début des années vingt, est regardée comme l’une des œuvres dramatiques majeures du répertoire italien. Dans un hôtel borgne, des acteurs miséreux en tournée dans une station balnéaire réputée répètent un extrait de la pièce Funeste nouvelle dans laquelle une jeune fille pauvre est déshonorée par un jeune homme. Le frère de cette dernière menace de tuer l’amant fautif. Avec une habileté confondante, l’argument se déploie en ménageant, comme le genre le requiert, chassés-croisés et rebondissements. Pour Patrick Pelloquet, qui a choisi de mettre en scène cette tragi-comédie, Homme et galant homme, s’inscrit « dans la grande tradition d’un théâtre populaire qui donne une dimension universelle à une réalité quotidienne faite de misère et de noblesse. Nourri des œuvres de ses pères, et notamment de son grand admirateur et ami Luigi Pirandello, De Filippo joint à la pièce une réflexion profonde sur les rapports humains entre être et paraître. Deux grands axes se dessinent : celui du théâtre dans le théâtre et celui de la folie. Quand la condition humaine est trop difficile à supporter, reste-t-il une possibilité d’évasion dans le jeu ou dans l’aliénation qui se révèle efficace ? ».
