C’est à travers une nouvelle traduction signée François Regnault qu’Emmanuel
Demarcy-Mota investit le trajet tumultueux du commissionnaire Galy Gay. Un
trajet que Bertolt Brecht a plusieurs fois révisé, entre 1918 et 1953, faisant
se refléter dans son texte les principaux mouvements et traumatismes de son
siècle (colonisation, crise économique de 1929, montée du national-socialisme en
Allemagne). « Parcours d’un brave type qui peu à peu devient machine de
guerre », « transformation d’un homme perdu dans des rêves d’évasion et
de consommation », réflexion sur la permutation et l’interchangeabilité des
êtres’ Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota envisage Homme pour homme comme « une
partie d’échecs » à travers laquelle Brecht nous apporte, une fois de plus,
« une manière de passer par le théâtre et ses fantasmes pour vivre la
réalité, nous définir, nous situer les uns par rapport aux autres ».
