Pour la première fois, la compagnie Demain dès l’Aube créée par le metteur en scène Hugo Roux, ex-élève de l’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Techniques du Théâtre, se tourne vers une œuvre à la fois romanesque et contemporaine. Une fresque humaine et sociale qui mêle l’intime et le politique, dont les héros, adolescents puis jeunes adultes, grandissent dans les années 1990, dans une région désindustrialisée. Deux aspects de l’œuvre ont particulièrement retenu l’attention du metteur en scène : la description quasi-clinique des sentiments et le travail sur le langage. Les acteurs, placés au cœur du dispositif scénique, sont appelés à incarner une foule de figures différentes. Une attention particulière a donc été portée aux artifices permettant de soutenir la puissance de transformation des comédiens. Entre incarnation et adresse directe au public, la pièce dessine un paysage social et générationnel où les désirs peinent à se réaliser.
