La confrontation est inattendue : d’un côté, Jacques Offenbach et ses opérettes légères, de l’autre, Victor Hugo et ses écrits engagés. Dans la pièce « Hugoffenbach », le metteur en scène Patrick Mons souhaite néanmoins dépasser ces clichés en nous montrant ce qui unit les deux hommes, en particulier d’un point de vue politique. Musiques d’Offenbach (des extraits de La Belle Hélène, de La Vie parisienne…) et textes de Hugo (tirés, notamment, des Châtiments) se répondent de manière très pertinente. Une plongée au cœur du Second Empire portée par une belle équipe d’acteurs et de chanteurs et par la guitare de Thierry Garcia.
