Né dans une famille de griots casamançais, le Sénégalais Ibrahima Cissokho a grandi aux sons de la kora, un instrument auquel il décide de dédier pleinement sa vie en 1996. C’est le début d’un retour aux sources de la longue tradition mandingue, qui veut que les Cissokho transmettent de génération en génération les chants épiques et destins tragiques. C’est encore et toujours ce riche patrimoine que le jeune chanteur va porter et colporter avec Mandingue Foly, l’ensemble familial qu’il fonde en 2003. Avant d’en changer voici deux ans la formule, l’ouvrant volontiers aux influences extérieures et choisissant de se consacrer à sa voix, pour pouvoir toucher un public plus large. Un choix esthétique qui lui réussit au vu des louanges de la presse hexagonale.
