En une petite poignée de disques consacrés aux Partitas et aux Variations Goldberg de Bach, aux dernières sonates et aux Variations Diabelli de Beethoven, aux Variations sur « El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido » de Frédéric Rzewski, jusqu’à son dernier album publié qui, sous le titre de Life, nous emporte dans un voyage dominé par la transcendance, le pianiste allemand d’origine russe Igor Levit s’est imposé non comme un futur grand, mais bien comme l’un des pianistes qui comptent à notre époque. En 2018, il donnait au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, où il revient pour un récital, un Premier Concerto de Brahms sous la direction de Lionel Bringuier, qui consacrait un talent immense. Le 16 mai, Levit donne les Sonates opp. 109 et 110 de Beethoven, celles peut-être où le compositeur laisse le plus parler son cœur, et la grande œuvre spéculative que sont les Diabelli que l’on verrait aujourd’hui davantage comme un hénaurme éclat de rire que comme une œuvre intimidante.
