Aujourd’hui méconnu, Il Matrimonio segreto fut longtemps un
best-seller du répertoire lyrique. Au XIXème siècle, le Théâtre Italien de Paris
le programma plus de trois cents fois. Un succès qui remonte d’ailleurs à sa
création en février 1792 : à la fin de la première, l’Empereur Léopold II bissa
l’?uvre en entier. Il est vrai que le livret de Giovanni Bertati offre une
savoureuse description des m’urs de l’époque. Les relations entre amants se
voient ainsi dépeintes avec esprit et verve dramaturgique. La partition de
Cimarosa s’inscrit quant à elle dans la tradition musicale italienne, fusion
insolente de rythmes et de couleurs. L’influence de Mozart est également
perceptible, en particulier dans l’alliance entre les voix et les instruments.
Mise en scène par Anne-Marie Lazarini, cette production du Théâtre des Athévains
réunit une équipe prometteuse de jeunes chanteurs, ainsi que les musiciens de
l’Orchestre-Studio de Cergy-Pontoise.
