Théâtre de l'Usine / d’Alfred de Musset / mes Hubert Jappelle
Valentin, adolescent tardif, oisif et insouciant, mène la grande vie aux frais de son oncle. Ce dernier menace le jeune homme de lui couper les vivres, à moins qu’il ne se marie. Mais Valentin parvient à l’en dissuader au seul moyen d’une démonstration aussi brillante que spirituelle : il se rend incognito chez sa promise, Cécile, et parie de la séduire en une semaine. Mais « il ne faut jurer de rien », et le proverbe illustre le renversement final : au jeu de la séduction, tel est pris qui croyait prendre. Derrière l’humour, se cache un profond désenchantement, celui des petits enfants de ce siècle cupide et corrompu qu’exècre Musset. En ce crépuscule des révolutions, époque maudite et amère, où les peuples et les esprits reviennent à la réaction après le mouvement, aucune consolation n’est possible, sinon, peut-être l’amour, cette « chose sainte et sublime » que loue Perdican dans On ne badine pas avec l’amour.
