Influer, c’est exercer sur quelqu’un une action de nature à le modifier : un ascendant, un magnétisme, une séduction. Le nouveau magicien Thierry Collet commence Influences non sans ironie : « ceci n’est pas un spectacle ». C’est que le prestidigitateur, expert, professeur et VRP, propose une série d’expériences à partager, pointant les mécanismes à l’œuvre dans le rituel inconscient du consentement, cet obscur objet de désir. Costume cravate et tenue clean, l’interprète arbore toute une série de cartons, « vrai » ou « faux » selon les revers, avec des formes géométriques et des couleurs repérables, triangle, carré, cercle, rouge, bleu, jaune. Le bateleur invite un spectateur à faire son « choix », c’est le « cercle jaune ». Le magicien révèle son carton : un cercle jaune, comme si le spectateur n’avait pas décidé, mais avait « été choisi ». Thierry Collet lirait-il dans les pensées ? Le doute et l’incertitude font rêver l’auditoire. Mais jamais ne sont révélés aux curieux ni les trucages, ni les petits arrangements invisibles sur le plateau. Peut-être une présence complice dans les coulisses, derrière un rideau ? « L’opérateur doit forcer l’attention du public sur tel point et le détourner de tel autre. » À quel besoin répond l’envie d’enchantement et d’utopie, la volonté de s’en remettre à une autorité morale ?
Ressentir l’appartenance au groupe.
Influences ne répond pas à la question mais répertorie les situations où les hommes se retrouvent ensemble dans la confiance, une affaire de modélisation sociale et de manipulation. Ce consentement majoritaire implicite est le signe d’une volonté d’être uni pour construire. Un exemple avec « l’expérience de l’arbre » pour laquelle un même taux de réussite est enregistré, soit 87% du public reconnaît un arbre et une croix entremêlée, soit l’interdiction de mettre le feu etc… Autant dire que percevoir, c’est d’abord reconnaître les expériences passées, un besoin d’identifier les choses pour ressentir l’appartenance au groupe. Ce mouvement psychologique peut provoquer de graves malentendus, des erreurs tragiques comme dans l’Affaire d’Outreau – dont les informations pleuvent à partir de haut-parleurs installés de chaque côté de la salle, métaphores de la voix du peuple qui met à nu les revirements de l’opinion entre le début et la fin du procès, depuis la première accusatrice qui se rétracte. Dans les prises de décision, Thierry Collet joue des apparences avec habileté et un sérieux maintenu, une intuition poétique conviviale. On aimerait voyager encore dans les méandres de la prestidigitation mentale qui en dit beaucoup mais pas assez et laisse le spectateur dans une attente non satisfaite.
