Accumulation d’auto-accusations, confession culpabilisée en forme de justification impossible, pétrie de contradictions et de provocations, Introspection est un texte dense et haletant qui pose, de façon aigue et souvent douloureuse, la question de la constitution et de l’identité du sujet. Gwenaël Morin, déjà familier de ce texte utilisé pour l’un de ses précédents spectacles, a choisi de le mettre en scène pour montrer « que « je » n’existe que dans la relation à l’autre. L’affirmation du « je » du sujet n’est possible qu’à partir du moment où je reconnais la réalité de l’autre. » Peter Handke a écrit ce texte pour deux interprètes, un homme et une femme, mais a laissé aux comédiens la liberté de se répartir son contenu selon leurs propres règles, à condition qu’elles aient souci d’harmonie. « Le génie de Handke est qu’il écrit un monologue pour deux et pose de manière éclatante le relativité absolue du point d’affirmation du « je » », dit Gwenaël Morin. Sans narration, sans personnages, sans locuteur désigné, le texte offre une liberté théâtrale dont le metteur en scène s’empare en en confiant l’interprétation au singulier pluriel d’un chœur de comédiens, travaillant ainsi « sur l’invention du sujet dans l’adversité de l’expérience collective ».
