« Je suis venu au monde. J’ai été conçu. Engendré. Mes os se sont formés. Je suis né. Consigné au registre des naissances. J’ai grandi. » Ces premiers mots, lâchés d’un trait sec, ouvrent Introspection, récit taillé à froid dans l’infinie litanie des repentances et dissidences, des faits, méfaits et défaites d’une vie. De phrase en phrase, tirée en rafales méthodiques, se pose en actes l’histoire d’un être qui apprend son métier d’homme. Jeté hors d’enfance par la conscience du monde, le « je » réclame son existence, se forge dans le regard et le langage, dans le fracas du moi contre les autres. Règles et règlements, transgressions et omissions, désobéissance, résistance, contradictions et soumission : ce « je » découvre le « nous », s’y heurte, s’y fond et s’y confond, s’affirme au cœur du nous, dans son individualité, sa singularité plurielle. En quelques pages qui claquèrent les esprits en 1966, Peter Handke trouble les conventions du théâtre et joue des codes de l’autocritique dans l’aveu d’une humanité qui se cherche, s’invente, parfois défaille.
Variations du chœur
« Les pièces « parlées » sont des représentations théâtrales non imagées en ce sens qu’elles ne donnent aucune image du monde. Elles montrent le monde (…) plutôt sous la forme de mots. » prévient l’écrivain autrichien en prologue. Le metteur en scène Gwenaël Morin prend l’indication à la lettre. C’est un chœur de huit acteurs qui porte le soliloque devant témoins. Plantés en ligne face au public, ils brandissent les mots, les scandent, les cognent, pour en briser la gangue et faire sortir toute leur puissance de frappe. Quelque fois se détache une voix parmi le groupe, puis une autre, encore une autre. Des voix qui disent ensemble et pourtant se distinguent. Ces subtiles variations du chœur font affleurer la complexité de la relation entre l’un et les autres, la singularité dans l’unisson, l’anonymat dans l’union, l’affirmation du sujet face à la communauté. Tel dispositif, d’une simplicité radicale, livre toute l’intelligence et la force du texte. « Les pièces parlées ne veulent pas constituer une révolution mais seulement rendre attentifs. » écrit encore Peter Handke. Poursuivant l’aventure du Théâtre permanent, qui s’inscrit résolument dans la cité au quotidien, Gwenaël Morin attire ici une attention salutaire.
