Dans Elle voulait mourir et aller à Paris (2017), Joachim Latarjet alliait théâtre, musique et danse pour évoquer ses origines franco-grecques. Il nous parlait de sa mère, issue d’une famille grecque ayant dû quitter la Turquie en 1923. Il disait les héritages, les exils, les désirs de cette femme dont le destin fut marqué par l’Histoire. Isabelle est la suite de ce travail où la fiction se mêle à l’autobiographie. Inspirée par sa tante, l’héroïne éponyme de cette nouvelle création est une femme dont on dit qu’elle a « sept ans d’âge mental ». Dans les souvenirs de Joachim Latarjet, Isabelle « n’a que très peu de tabous, elle parle à tout bout de champ, souvent pour ne rien dire, elle fait des allusions paillardes, elle hurle si elle est mécontente, rit fort ». Accompagné au plateau par la co-fondatrice de sa Compagnie Oh ! Oui Alexandra Fleischer et par quatre autres interprètes, l’artiste « donne à entendre et à voir ces personnes qui sont comme pris dans une centrifugeuse ».
