Le chorégraphe britannique Akram Khan est mondialement connu pour sa danse rythmique et féline, qui puise ses origines dans le kathak indien comme dans la danse moderne. On retrouvera cette qualité à la fois contenue et fulgurante dans iTMOi, sa création 2013, inspirée du Sacre du Printemps de Stravinski. De cette œuvre aux accents puissants, comme archaïques, fondée sur le sacrifice d’une femme qui danse jusqu’à la mort, le chorégraphe retient « une rupture dans l’esprit, une mort dans le corps, et une naissance dans l’âme ». Une exploration de situations extrêmes et paradoxales, donc, qu’il mène avec trois compositeurs (Nitin Sawhney, Jocelyn Pook, Ben Frost) : leur travail se déploie à partir de la musique de Stravinski mais aboutit à des univers sonores et à des imaginaires contrastés, rejouant les significations d’une œuvre qui appartient, aujourd’hui, à notre patrimoine commun.
