Succès d’Avignon Off 2016 au Théâtre des Carmes, Ivo Livi ou le destin d’Yves Montand invite à revivre à travers la voix de ses quatre comédiens-chanteurs, accompagnés à l’accordéon par Olivier Selac, la trajectoire d’un artiste incomparable qui allait traverser et habiter le XXème siècle comme personne, dessinant l’archétype de l’artiste engagé, intervenant dans le champ politique au contact des grands intellectuels de son temps, et participant au jeu médiatique au fil de sa vie personnelle parfois agitée… La vie de Montand est aussi une plongée dans l’Histoire, de l’Italie de Mussolini, où il voit le jour (le 13 octobre 1921) dans une famille de militants communistes, à l’arrivée en France dans les quartiers populaires de Marseille, de la traversée de la Seconde Guerre mondiale jusqu’à ses plus grands succès artistiques planétaires… Le spectacle est d’abord un hommage au talent incroyable de Montand, comédien et chanteur d’exception : au cinéma, des studios d’Hollywood où il tourne avec Cukor et Marylin Monroe à Costa-Gavras ; au music-hall, de Piaf qui le pousse dans la lumière après-guerre à Paris au chef-d’œuvre Les Feuilles mortes de Prévert et Kosma, qui le fait entrer dans la légende de la chanson populaire universelle…
