Cette nouvelle saison est davantage tournée vers le lyrique. Pourquoi ?
Jacques Pornon : Onze spectacles – sur une cinquantaine au total – s’inscrivent dans le domaine lyrique, ce qui est beaucoup pour un théâtre non spécialisé. Cela illustre bien notre projet pluridisciplinaire. Ce qui est formidable avec l’opéra, c’est que tout le monde peut suivre, se construire son propre chemin dans l’œuvre. Quand nous avons présenté l’Orpheus de Telemann, les gamins d’école primaire étaient captivés.
Vous ouvrez la saison lyrique au Théâtre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines avec la Tétralogie de Wagner, dans la version de Jonathan Dove et Graham Vick. Qu’est-ce que cela représente pour vous ?
J. P. : C’est une aventure, une fête autour du Ring, qui d’ailleurs renvoie au projet initial de Wagner. Dans l’idée du compositeur, il s’agissait de s’adresser à un public très large et non à des spécialistes. Ce projet est une étape importante dans notre travail sur le répertoire lyrique. Nous avons eu la chance de pouvoir travailler depuis novembre dernier avec T&M, et d’ouvrir ainsi les répétitions à un public très large.

Avec Antoine Gindt pour Ring Saga comme avec Peter Brook pour La Flûte enchantée, vos choix se portent sur des expériences de mise en scène très personnelles…
J. P. : Oui. Il s’agit de mettre en avant le parti pris personnel d’un metteur en scène. La démarche de Peter Brook est d’imprimer vraiment sa marque, sa propre conception de l’opéra. Nous présenterons aussi Thanks to my eyes du jeune compositeur Oscar Bianchi, créé l’été dernier au Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Là aussi, j’ai été sensible à la personnalité très forte Joël Pommerat, qui signe le livret adapté de sa propre pièce ainsi que la mise en scène. On dit souvent qu’un bon opéra commence par un bon livret : il y a là l’assurance d’une grande force dramatique !
La programmation fait d’ailleurs une large place à la création.
J. P. : Cela fait partie de notre vocation. Même si nous travaillons aussi, bien sûr, sur le répertoire déjà connu, il est important d’apporter au public ce qui se crée aujourd’hui. Nous le faisons depuis plusieurs années en collaborant avec Antoine Gindt et T&M, mais aussi avec Musicatreize par exemple.
Présenter Zanaïda de Jean-Chrétien Bach en première scénique française, est-ce pour vous un motif de fierté ?
J. P. : Bien sûr. C’est un bonheur de présenter une œuvre importante jamais entendue auparavant. Ce qui nous importe avant tout, c’est de sortir des cadres habituels. C’est ce que nous faisons aussi en programmant Le Mikado de Gilbert & Sullivan, qui associe les musiciens d’Opera Fuoco à des chœurs amateurs – ce sera aussi le cas pour Jekyll, création de Raoul Lay avec l’ensemble Télémaque. C’est un peu comme une fête, une façon de conclure le parcours accompli pendant un an avec notre public.
Les artistes se prêtent-ils volontiers aux rencontres avec le public ?
J. P. : Oui. D’ailleurs, nous ne les obligeons à rien. C’est avant tout un choix artistique. Ensuite, on voit ensemble ce qu’on peut faire autour des représentations. David Stern ou Frank Krawczyk, notre compositeur en résidence, font cela avec beaucoup de passion. Pour Ring Saga, Antoine Gindt a également beaucoup « mouillé sa chemise » : il y a chez les artistes que nous accueillons une vraie envie de transmettre.
