Né en 1949, le contrebassiste Jacques Vidal est l’un des musiciens
inévitables et irréprochables de la scène française du jazz depuis trois
décennies. Ancien élève de Kenny Clarke, il participa à la création du groupe
Magma et accompagna des géants américains tels que Phyllie Joe Jones ou Pepper
Adams. C’est en 1978 qu’il rencontre le guitariste Frédéric Sylvestre, véritable
alter ego, avec lequel il n?a jamais cessé de jouer. On les retrouve une
nouvelle fois associés dans le nouvel album « Mingus Spirit » de Jacques Vidal,
enregistré à la tête d’une grande formation de dix musiciens d’élite où l’on
distingue le trompettiste Eddie Henderson, le saxophoniste Pierrick Pedron, le
tromboniste Glenn Ferris ou le pianiste Manuel Rocheman. « Ce qui m’inspire
le plus chez Mingus, ce sont les vibrations qu’engendre sa musique, et son
énergie phénoménale. L’une des facettes les plus intéressantes de sa musique,
c’est qu’elle est une synthèse de toute l’histoire du jazz. Le challenge pour ce
disque était que l’univers en soit bien le mien » confie Jacques Vidal.
