« Plus de 200 artistes, 40 groupes, des créations et projets inédits… Jazz à la Villette met les bouchées doubles pour vous présenter l’excitante diversité d’une musique sans cesse en mouvement. » L’avant-propos du grand raout de la fin de l’été s’annonce encore une fois riche en événements majeurs, ouvert à tous les vents tout en proposant des passerelles vers les néophytes. Cette année, plus qu’une thématique précise, il s’agira donc de célébrer le jazz dans toute sa variété esthétique actuelle, de Gil Scott-Heron à Paul Bley, à travers entre autres des rencontres. Ainsi, le pianiste cubain Chucho Valdès sera associé au ténor Archie Shepp, le chanteur Bilal posera sa voix tout soul sur le piano de Robert Glasper, le Libanais Ibrahim Maalouf dialoguera avec un autre trompettiste, le New-yorkais Dave Douglas, et le funkster Fred Wesley reprendra du service aux côtés des rénovateurs du son klezmer, David Krakauer et SoCalled. Sans oublier le tellurique saxophoniste David Murray qui improvisera aux côtés des Last Poets et des Roots.
