Pour sa 33e édition, le village gersois a une fois de plus mis les petits plats dans les grands. Outre les maintenant prestigieux habitués du festival (tel le trompettiste Wynton Marsalis ou John Zorn pour une nuit exceptionnelle avec sa formidable formation The Dreamers), Marciac accueillera comme il se doit une brochette très impressionnante de hautes figures du piano : Ahmad Jamal, Chucho Valdes, McCoy Tyner, Kenny Barron, Randy Weston ou encore Chick Corea. Mais l’un des moments forts du JIM, c’est sans conteste la venue d’une légende absolue de La Nouvelle-Orléans, Allen Toussaint, pianiste, chanteur, et compositeur on ne peut plus inspiré et fructueux dont le splendide dernier opus, “The Bright Mississippi”, a été élu meilleur disque de l’année par l’Académie du Jazz. Ses hymnes ont été entonnés par tout le monde, des Rolling Stones à Robert Plant, jusqu’à Barack Obama (Yes We Can, c’est de lui !). A présent, ce sera au tour du public de Marciac de reprendre ces sublimes rythmes…
