L’Association des Festivals Innovants en Jazz et Musiques Actuelles, plus connue sous l’acronyme Afijma, fédère trente festivals dont les programmations s’inscrivent dans des logiques « créatives » et s’écrivent pour tout type de public, en zones urbaines comme en milieu rural. Il s’agit donc d’innover aussi bien du côté de la musique que de sa diffusion. Mieux : depuis dix ans, cette association tisse sa toile sur le réseau européen, à travers une politique de partenariats avec de nombreux pays, où l’exemplarité de sa mission et de ses réalisations a fait école. C’est d’ailleurs dans cette logique d’expansion du domaine de la création artistique, qu’est né en 2002 Jazz Migration, un programme annuel qui sélectionne trois groupes en devenir.
Fermeture de ban 2007 et ouverture du bal 2008
Ce que rappellent ces deux soirées : la première conclut l’édition 2007 tandis que la seconde ouvre le bal de la saison 2008, scellant par ailleurs la nouvelle union entre l’Afijma et les 28 clubs qui composent la Fédération des Scènes de Jazz et de musiques improvisées. Le 18, Pulcinella, soit quatre larrons à l’instrumentation aussi ouverte que leur répertoire, le quartet de Brice Martin, leader emblématique à travers son approche unique mais multiple sur le basson, et Wark, qui chemine entre l’écrit et l’improvisé, confirmeront la pluralité des horizons du jazz actuel. Le 19, Cannibales & Vahinés, un trio toulousain qui mixe l’esprit d’ouverture des années 70 aux musiques actuelles, le trio du pianiste Jérémie Ternoy, quelque part entre Erik Satie et Chick Corea, et le quartet de Julien Lallier, dans une veine plus afro-américaine, indiqueront de nouvelles pistes à suivre. Somme toute, la preuve par six que plus le jazz migre, mieux il vibre.
