Quand le bleu du jazz rencontre le vert de la campagne normande, ce sont les mille couleurs d’un jazz pluriel qui jaillissent. « Pour l’édition 2009, nous avons conservé une recette de programmation qui mélangera tous les jazz, qui fera cohabiter les têtes d’affiche et les jeunes talents… Programmer selon moi, c’est cheminer dans ses coups de coeur tout en essayant de refléter la richesse et l’éclectisme du jazz d’aujourd’hui, et de ses musiques cousines » explique Denis Le Bas, directeur de « Jazz sous les pommiers ». Une série de cinq créations domine les débats cette année. Elles sont signées Carine Bonnefoy à la tête de son New Large Ensemble, Henri Texier dont la musique sera revisitée par L’Ensemble à cordes de Basse-Normandie, Andy Sheppard (artiste en résidence) pour une rencontre insolite avec le chef (cuisinier !) Ivan Vautier, Archimusic, l’orchestre de Jean-Rémy Guédon et enfin Yael Naim qui rendra hommage à Joni Mitchell, entourée d’un superbe combo de jazzmen.
La création comme axe central
« Les créations ont toujours constitué un élément essentiel de notre projet artistique. Elles font partie des premiers projets programmés sur chaque édition. Elles naissent de rencontres, d’une idée soumise à un musicien, de projets qui nous sont suggérés aussi… On essaie de choisir des projets originaux qui mettront en avant un musicien pas assez reconnu à nos yeux, ou un projet musical particulièrement innovant, ou encore la possibilité pour un musicien de réaliser un de ses rêves musicaux, etc… » précise le directeur du festival. Mais l’intérêt du festival réside autant dans ces pics créatifs que dans le joyeux et généreux foisonnement de ses 47 concerts au total portés par 300 musiciens venus de 23 pays différents , avec un parti pris constant du festival de renoncer au « prêt à programmer » et pour le spectateur le vrai bonheur de découvrir des « plateaux » rares voire inédits. « Nous sommes un petit comité de programmation, un collectif. Ce qui multiplie les écoutes, les repérages sur CD ou en « live » dans les clubs ou les festivals. Chacun défend ses coups de coeur. Nous avons ensemble la volonté de ne pas être un garage à tournées ! » insiste Denis Le Bas en conclusion.
