Tout est dans le titre de leur récent disque : Strata Records, The sound Of Detroit reimagined by Jazzanova. Autrement dit l’hommage à un label cultissime par un collectif devenu lui-même culte depuis ses débuts, au cœur de la vague nu jazz des années 1990, qui surfait sur les musiques électroniques. Vingt-sept ans et moins de cinq disques plus tard, revoilà donc les Berlinois en scène pour saluer le label dont le slogan était au début des années 1970 « The Sound of Detroit ». « Toutes les musiques pour tous ». Pas d’exclusive, nulle orthodoxie. Le nom même de ce label – Strata – indique un indice d’une manière de penser et jouer la musique : les strates d’une même histoire. Il suffit d’écouter la petite dizaine de galettes – 6 LP d’origine, dont le génial multi-instrumentiste Maulawi Nururdin, et son précurseur Street Rap –, pour se convaincre du caractère visionnaire de cette histoire, ressortie de l’oubli grâce à DJ Amir, convié aux manettes pour cet hommage on ne peut plus mérité.
