« Je voudrais avoir une petite fille qui ait la peau blanche comme cette neige, les lèvres rouges comme ce sang, les yeux et les cheveux noirs comme l’ébène. » Les contes sont faits de ces formules quasi magiques, d’autant plus puissantes qu’elles nous ont fait rêver enfants. Comment en faire un matériau scénique ? Sophie Mathey crée d’abord un ensemble de « couches » de conte qui se superposent : elle nous donne à entendre le texte de Grimm, mais aussi celui de Robert Walser, qui le transpose de façon très personnelle. La musique (trois musiciens sont présents sur le plateau) joue sur le montage de références savantes et populaires, de Bach à l’accordéon. Les danseurs se laissent traverser par ces émotions littéraires et musicales, et fabriquent à vue des images évocatrices : le paysage d’hiver, le miroir doué de parole…
